    It’s a commentary on lifestyle. A backhanded slap at the type of sustenance lifestyle versus the accumulation of goods lifestyle. One of the earliest rationale for outlawing Indian “religion” was that it went against Victorian principles of accumulation. White society was quick to gauge everyone who was not like them as children. The Traditional Indian lifestyle was not as sophisticated as the new ways of property accumulation.
    As for stress factors, who can imagine what the people were facing, with their way of life being threatened by the new faces/changes.
