Anishinabe Legal Services is attempting to append a punishment of banishment to a civil property suit.
There is a little civil suit matter going on in the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Tribal Court that the outcome could effect any tribal member who marries a non-tribal member or non-native by banning them from the reservation. This banishment outcome has the potential to sweep across Indian Country as the Judge residing over this civil case is a Federal Law Lawyer who is building his career with the focus on banning non-natives from Indian lands.
The case file is CV-11-09. White VS. Wade. Plaintiff’s Lawyer is Paul Day, Anishinabe Legal Service. The initial judge who gave the case merit and accepted it into court is Joe Plumber who is on the Board of Directors for Anishinabe Legal Services. The LL Court appointed Victor Smith to the defendants is also on the BOD for Anishinabe Legal Services. The current Judge is BJ Jones, from the Dakota’s , a Federal Law Lawyer hired as LL Court Judge.
The next hearing on this case is June 29, 2012 at 8:00AM at the Leech Lake Tribal Court located on the second floor in the Facility Center, Cass Lake, MN.
