The First Nations University of Canada is academically federated with the University of Regina and has an enrolment of over 750 students spread across the main campus in Regina and two other campuses located in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. It offers on-campus degree and certificate programs, including some graduate programs, and also provides off-campus classes and programs in First Nations communities within Saskatchewan and other provinces.

Under the leadership of a new Board of Directors with a focused and forward-thinking mandate, the President provides leadership and strategic direction for the operation of the academic and administrative affairs of the University under a current balanced budget. While upholding and protecting the original mission of the University, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating an atmosphere that will contribute to excellence in all aspects of the institution. The new President will be a highly respected individual with the ability, understanding and passion, as well as diplomatic skills to liaise and build strong relationships with all existing and future stakeholders within as well as external to the University including staff, students, elders, communities, and all levels of government. She/he will be well seasoned in post-secondary leadership and will possess a graduate degree from a postsecondary institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, as well as the following qualifications:

• Exceptional knowledge, understanding, and practice of First Nations history, cultures, traditions,
• protocols, issues and social structures;
• Strong skills and experience in post-secondary administration with the ability to manage complex
• structures and enhance relationships while negotiating and collaborating within political and culturally
• sensitive environments;
• Ability to lead, motivate, inspire and direct a team of senior level administrators, faculty and staff;
• Proven experience in strategically positioning internal and external communications including excellent skills in public and media relations (ability to communicate in a First Nations language is an asset);
• Thorough understanding of funding relationships and agreements affecting the institution including the ability to manage a large operational and balanced budget; and
• Ability to travel.
