Judge Moran was a named party in Moran v. Council of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, 22 Indian L. Rep. 6149 (C.S. & K.T. Ct. App. 1995).

Judge William Joseph Moran, Chief Justice of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Appellate Court and Chief Judge of the Tribal Court, died at his home Wednesday. He was 65 years old.
Moran served in the US Navy and was a Councilman representing Arlee. He also served as a Tribal Judge for the Blackfeet Nation.
In his honor, the Tribes have lowered the tribal flag and planned for an early dismissal of government employees on noon Friday.
The wake for Moran will be this Friday at 10 a.m. at the new Arlee Community Center. Mass will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Arlee Community Center.
Burial will follow in the Jocko Cemetery where military honors will be presented.
