The House of Representatives and Senate have passed bills recognizing the
Friday after Thanksgiving as Native American Heritage Day. Signed by the
President on October 8th, it is now Public Law No: 110-370.
The original house bill was sponsored by Representative Joe Baca from
California. It had 83 cosponsors. The only Michigan cosponsor was Dale
Kildee from Michigan’s 5th district.
The corresponding Senate Bill was sponsored by Senator Daniel Inouye of
Hawaii, and had 15 cosponsors, none of which were from Michigan.
