ACLU of Montana

Staff Attorney. State of Montana. ACLU MT is seeking a passionate, energetic and committed staff attorney to conduct litigation advancing civil rights and liberties in the state. Housing Attorney. Remote in Los Angeles of Bay Area. California Indian Legal Services (CILS) is seeking either a full-time or part-time grant-funded attorney dedicated to homelessness prevention. The Remote Housing Staff Attorney will work collaboratively with other staff to provide exceptional legal services in eviction defense and homelessness prevention. The position will be entirely dedicated to eviction defense and homelessness prevention for low-income Native American clients living offreservation (state and local housing law). The Hopi Tribe

Deputy General Counsel. Kykotsmovi, AZ. This is a tribal inhouse counsel position for the Hopi Tribe. The position processes requests for legal review by the Tribal Council and the Tribe’s Officers, Departments and Programs. These requests can range from contract review to answering and analyzing complex questions of law dealing with natural resources to human resources. Closing Date – Open until filled.

Chief Prosecutor. Keam Canyon, AZ. The Chief Prosecutor administers the Hopi Tribe’s Office of the Tribal Prosecutor. He or she is responsible for the prosecution of violations of the Hopi tribal code and pursues dependency matters pursuant to the Hopi Children’s’ Code. This position works (and coordinates) with Hopi and BIA law enforcement, the FBI and US attorney’s office. The Assistant Tribal Prosecutor provides professional legal prosecutorial work for the Yakama Nation to defend the Treaty of June 9, 1855 and the sovereignty of the Yakama Nation. Provides attorney services in tribal, state and federal courts for the Yakama Nation. Represents the Yakama Nation in criminal prosecutions, civil matters including the Indian Child Welfare Act and dependency matters, may serve as legal advisor to law enforcement. Coordinates with police jurisdictions and other agencies to ensure prosecution activities to serve the interests of the Yakama Nation in protecting the safety of the community. Eviction Prevention Intake Specialist. Helena or Billings MT. Offers support, advocacy, information and referrals to families and individuals facing eviction, or with housing issues. This position will serve as the first point of contact for MLSA clients with housing issues. The Eviction Prevention Intake Specialist works with the MT Eviction Intervention Program Team to conduct client intakes and offer holistic, client-based support to prevent eviction and enhance the housing stability of MLSA clients. The position will provide poverty law services to domestic violence victims throughout the state of Montana, concentrating their work in Carbon, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Park and Meagher counties. Poverty law services will primarily be in the area of family law and orders of protection, although other areas of law, such as housing, public benefits and consumer, will be addressed as appropriate to the client.
