I am told by my father that I am 1/8 Grand River Band Ottawa. I wisht to trace my ancestors; I can only go 2 maybe 3 generations today. There was a time that it was detrimental to be Indian and my grandfather did not register. Can you help?
I am from Montana and will contact my senators and congressman to vote yes for recognition.
I don’t know if anyone answered you or not. You can see the Association on American Indian Affairs website at http://www.indian-affairs.org click on resources in the main tool bar and the link researching your ancestry on the right side bar. You can find some basic information there. You can also go to http://www.doi.gov, which is the Department of Interior. There is a link on the left side bar to researching your ancestry.

what is the status of the bill to try and get Federal recognition for the Grand River Band of Ottawas?
I can not image why it is sooooooooooo difficult for the GRAND RIVER BAND to get Federal Recognition.
There are so many facts about this tribe.
I only wish the commmitee had walked a few steps in the mocassins of my mother and my other ancestors. Forced into Indian schools and onto reservation land! Is this too hard to recognize???????
