The State Bar of Wisconsin will host a Mining Law Symposium CLE on Thursday, August 25, 2011 which in many ways is in response to the proposed mine to be situated in the Penokee-Gogebic Iron Range in northwest Wisconsin, very near the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe Reservation, by Gogebic Taconite.
Here is information on the CLE:
Here is a Milwaukee Sentinel Journal article discussing Bad River Chairman Mike Wiggins’ concerns with the proposed mine:

Here is recent article describing the mine from Northwoods Wilderness Recovery:
Thank you for mentioning the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Thursday, August 25 continuing legal education (CLE) symposium for attorneys on Wisconsin mining laws. In addition to the day-long session for attorneys, the State Bar will sponsor a public symposium on the history and operation of mining laws in Wisconsin on Thursday evening, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson St. Inn in Wausau (201 Jefferson Street).
This symposium is an informational event for the media, citizens, local officials and others who want to hear from experts on various federal, state and tribal laws that impact mining in Wisconsin. The panel of legal and technical experts we have assembled to participate in the CLE seminar will share their insights with the general public in the separate symposium after the seminar.
Panelists at the symposium will include attorneys and others with expertise on the legal, scientific, property rights, environmental and other dimensions of the proposed mine. The panel discussion will be moderated by Atty. Dennis M. Grzezinski. State Bar President Jim Brennan will then facilitate a question and answer session.
There is no charge for the symposium and no registration is required. The session will be recorded and a video of the event will be posted on the State Bar website for free downloads.
