Could tribal jurisdiction become included in the law prior to its finalization? Tribal jurisdiction is critical in addressing violence on reservation/trust lands.

I think Obama could veto this version of the bill and send it back but that may not get us anywhere in the long run. The idea of Tribal Courts having jurisdiction over non Indians is terrifying to white men, no matter what the man has done. I think that we will see jurisdiction over non-Indians around the same time we see women Catholic priests.
I really really wish this wasn’t the case.

I think Obama could veto the bill in its current version but I don’t think he will….it could actually get worse for women if the bill is sent back and the republicans change it again. Honestly, I believe that the thought of Tribal Court jurisdiction is terrifying to white men. I believe we will see tribal jurisdiction over non Indians about the same time we see women becoming Catholic priests. I so wish this wasn’t so.

Maybe I’ll be proven wrong. This is the policy statement released by the administration.
