DESCRIPTION Wisconsin Judicare’s Indian Law Office has an opening in Wausau, WI beginning in July for an attorney to represent Native American individuals and groups on a variety of issues including criminal defense representation in tribal courts and Indian law litigation in tribal and state courts. Wisconsin Judicare is a non-profit legal services law firm serving northern Wisconsin where there are 11 Indian reservations.

DUTIES (1) Maintain caseload on behalf of Indian individuals and groups;       (2) Participate in tribal court development and community education projects; and (3) Carry out training and back-up assistance to private attorneys.

QUALIFICATIONS (1) Admission to practice law in Wisconsin; (2) Good communications skills; and (3) Knowledge of Native American issues preferred.

The Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe is seeking proposals from persons in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association or graduates of an ABA accredited law school with Indian law experience who are interested serving as a Tribal Court Judge for the Sauk-Suiattle Tribal Court.

The Sauk-Suiattle Tribal Court convenes on the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Reservation located near Darrington, Washington one to two full days per month to hold civil and criminal trials and hearings.

A person serving as judge must also be available telephonically and/or electronically from time to time as occasionally the need arises to address requests by tribal law enforcement for search warrants and to issue temporary orders such as domestic violence protection orders, restraining orders, and emergency shelter care orders arising from Indian Child Welfare Act cases.

No particular format is required for submission of a proposal. Your proposal may propose an hourly, monthly or daily rate for providing judicial services. Persons willing to serve as a Judge for the Sauk-Suiattle Tribal Court should send a letter of interest or resume and proposal by July 30, 2015 to:

The Eastern Shoshone Office of Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Assistant Attorney General. The Assistant Attorney General provides legal advice, representation, assistance and support to the Eastern Shoshone tribal government, its departments and enterprises. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current active state bar licensure in any state is required, and expectation is that within one (1) year of hire the applicant will obtain licensure in the state of Wyoming; and
  2. Must be licensed or have the ability to be licensed in the Eastern Shoshone and Arapaho Tribal Court within ninety (90) days of hire; and
  3. Must possess knowledge of tribal, state, and federal law, regulations, and administrative procedures; and
  4. Federal Indian law knowledge or experience required; proven record of ability to work directly with tribal governments preferred; and
  5. Must have at least four (4) years legal experience.
