News coverage from Business Week:

A federal judge has denied a motion to dismiss a $2.8 billion claim against Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. by members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in upstate New York.

The members are seeking to enforce a judgment made in a tribal court in 2001 that found Harrah’s predecessor Park Place Entertainment interfered in the tribe’s plans to build a casino in the Catskill Mountains.

A legal trust fund sought to enforce the judgment in a New York federal court this summer. Harrah’s moved to dismiss the complaint in August.

The tribal trust’s lawyer, Dennis Vacco, said Wednesday that he was pleased with the court’s decision, saying “The tribe deserves to have its institutions respected.”

A Harrah’s spokeswoman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

I couldn’t be happier to hear this. Even though my surname is Scottish highlander I am also half native American. I really hate to see that native people have to become business bed partners with such a sleazy company as Harrah`s just to compete in the gaming industry. As a former employee I have seen the lengths that this so called company will go to just to make a buck off of anyone including native people. Their business practices of questionable actions are fast becoming public knowledge and as their despicable treatment of employees. Even though many people depend on this company for their livelihoods the business world would be better off if this so called business would go bankrupt or sold to another gaming company who knew how to run an ethical business. The world does not need companies that are this morally bankrupt as well as financially ignorant.
