From an email we received….
Hello All,
NNALSA is proud to announce that the 2010 NNALSA Moot Court Competition will be hosted by the University of South Dakota (USD) NALSA Chapter in Vermillion, South Dakota February 19-20, 2010.
South Dakota is ecstatic about hosting this years competition. The University of South Dakota has an outstanding Indian Law Program with some of the most prominent Indian law scholars in the country. The facilities for the NNALSA moot court competition are bar none. The school has done extensive remodeling and construction over the past few years which will be excellent for the NNALSA Moot Court Comeptition. The USD NALSA chapter has shown their dedication to Indian issues through their regional moot court competition, which has been held the past two years. The USD School of Law has an extremely active NALSA chapter with hard working members.
I hope that everyone will join us this year in the heart of Indian country. I will be sending out future deadlines, contact information, hotel information, and airport information at a later date. Thank you.

Michigan Tribal Elders Meeting
From UpNorthLive.com:
Tuesday was the first day of the 13th annual Michigan Indian Elders Association, or MIEA.
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 4:50 p.m.
BARAGA — Native American elders from across Michigan are in Baraga this week tackling tribal issues.
Tuesday was the first day of the 13th annual Michigan Indian Elders Association, or MIEA.
A drum and flag ceremony welcomed all 12 recognized tribes in the State of Michigan.
While the association is about how elders can make a difference culturally, socially and politically, they’re also working on bridging the gap between elders and youth.
“One of the cultural aspects of the Native American community is that the elders train and teach our youth,” says Robert Menard, MIEA Chairperson. “So they look up to our elders for guidance and that’s a service we’re providing them.”
The MIEA has given out more than $40,000 in scholarships and incentives to help children in school.
Some Organizational Changes
We’ve made some minor organizational changes on the blog. If you are looking for our Supreme Court information or Michigan Odawa History Project, those are now housed under the “Resources” tab at the top of the page. We’ve also added a section on State Bar Exams and Indian Law Materials there. If you are looking for events here at the MSU College of Law Indigenous Law and Policy Center, that is now housed under the “Indigenous Law Program,” along with information about the program, the law school, and our work here.
Let us know if you have any questions or can’t find something.
