NNALSA Moot Court Dates and Important Information
MOOT COURT 2017 – The National Native American Law Student Association (NNALSA), in partnership with the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law (UCLA) and the UCLA Chapter of NALSA, is excited to announce that the 25th Annual NNALSA Moot Court Competition will be held on March 4 and 5 at the UCLA School of Law.
NNALSA will announce the Moot Problem and information regarding registration and logistics on November 20, 2016.
The window for registration opens on November 20, 2016
The deadline for registration is December 20, 2016
The deadline for brief submission is January 9, 2017
NNALSA encourages all chapters to pay their dues prior to registration. National chapter and individual dues are prerequisites to participation in the competition. While the deadline for these payments is not until January 9, 2017, the process will be streamlined if such dues are paid ahead of registration. Please see the official Moot Court rules for specific details on eligibility.

Mayan leadership learns how to hold development banks accountable for human rights violations
Multilateral development banks play a key role in financing large-scale development projects, such as dams and forestry initiatives, that have often had devastating impacts on indigenous people and their communities. Indian Law Resource Center chairwoman appointed to top UN body on indigenous issues
Terri Henry, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Secretary of State and chairwoman of the Indian Law Resource Center board of directors, is one of 16 experts tapped to serve on the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. She will begin her three-year term on January 1, 2017. (More …)

The Indigenous Law Journal is dedicated to developing dialogue and scholarship in the field of Indigenous legal issues, both within Canada and internationally. We encourage submissions from all perspectives on these issues. Our central concerns are Indigenous legal systems and the interaction of other legal systems with Indigenous peoples. We are the only legal periodical in Canada with this focus. We welcome the addition of your voice to the discussion. The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Tribal Law and Policy Institute, and the National Congress of American Indians are hosting a webinar series on tribal protection orders. Each webinar will be 30 minutes with additional time for Question and Answer. Participants may attend one or more webinars, there are no prerequisites to attend any webinar. National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center is Hiring for New Native Helpline
The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) in partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH), is excited to announce that the StrongHearts Native Helpline, to be staffed by Native advocates, is scheduled to launch on January 4, 2017. The goal of the StrongHearts Native Helpline is to ensure that Native victims of domestic violence can access safety in a culturally relevant manner and eventually live their lives free of abuse.
As a result of an unexpected acceleration of our development timeline, NIWRC has agreed to house StrongHearts in Austin, Texas with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, to allow StrongHearts staff to receive direct support and mentoring from the NDVH. This is important in building a strong base aimed at enhancing services and outreach to tribal communities and Alaska Native villages. New Hires are expected to live in Austin, TX for initial start up time frame, then relocate to permanent Helpline office in Tulsa, OK.
