Great Lakes Fishery Trust RFP for Shore-based Angling and Tribal Commercial Fishing

The Great Lakes Fishery Trust has issued an RFP for grant proposals to increase access to Great Lakes Fisheries for shore-based angling and tribal commercial fishing.

The Great Lakes Fishery Trust (GLFT) is now accepting grant proposals under its Access to the Great Lakes Fishery funding category. Proposals can be submitted online at www.glft.org and are due by Friday, August 23, 2013.

The GLFT’s Access to the Great Lakes Fishery grant category focuses on significantly increasing access to the Great Lakes fishery for shore-based angling and tribal commercial fishing. Up to $500,000 is available for access projects.

The key intended outcomes foraccess grants to be awarded under this RFP are to:

  • Increase awareness of the GLFT as an access funder and increase the number of high-quality proposals received by the GLFT
  • Enhance shore-based Great Lakes recreational and tribal fishing opportunities through capital improvements where conditions are appropriate
  • Ensure that all jurisdictions on Lake Michigan with suitable site conditions have a public access site

American Indian Law Journal Call for Papers

The American Indian Law Journal, published by the Seattle University School of Law, is currently accepting submissions for potential publication in the fall and spring issues.  The American Indian Law Journal serves as a vital online resource providing high quality articles on issues relevant to Indian law practitioners and scholars across the country. The deadline for submissions for the fall issue is Wednesday September 4, 2013.  Our staff begins the editing process in mid-September, with publication occurring just after Thanksgiving. Articles considered for publication in the spring issue must be submitted no later than Wednesday February 5, 2014.

2013 Healing Circle Run/Walk, July 13-19, 2013

From the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission:

The 2013 Healing Circle Run/Walk will occur from July 13-19, 2013. The run/walk will connect eight Ojibwe reservations in northern Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota (see map) starting at the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation and ending at Lac du Flambeau on July 13 (Day 1), then ending at Mole Lake on July 14 (Day 2), at Lac Vieux Desert on July 15 (Day 3), at Bad River/Red Cliff on July 16 (Day 4), at Fond du Lac/Black Bear Casino on July 17 (Day 5), at St. Croix on July 18 (Day 6), and at Lac Courte Oreilles on July 19 (Day 7).

All participants must assume personal liability, as well as responsibility for their own transportation and expenses.

I participated in this event for a few days in 2011 and had a wonderful experience. Participants range from young children to elders and both walkers and runners. Some people go for only one day and others for the whole week. I hope to join this event again one of these summers.
