Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant/Associate Director for Student Engagement works closely with the Associate Dean for Student Engagement to achieve the objectives of the office that include advising students on a variety of matters, including college policies and procedures, services relating to professional counseling, academic support and special accommodations, and character & fitness; investigating code of student discipline issues, etc.; career advising; managing effective communication with current students about events, deadlines, opportunities; loose oversight of student organizations, advising the Student Bar Association; and planning and implementation of Immersion Week for incoming students, and Commencement.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate should have student affairs experience in academic advising, student counseling, and working with student organizations; planning events and activities; be able to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration; possess excellent interpersonal skills, empathetic listener and a sensitive, clear, and firm communicator; ability to multi-task; technologically savvy; a strong aptitude in Microsoft Office applications; and the ability to create systems and databases, particularly in Excel and Access.
A J.D. degree is required.

The Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, a sovereign, federally-recognized Tribe, is looking to hire an in-house Tribal Attorney with a minimum of three years’ experience in federal Indian law, to serve the Tribe as it collectively defines its future for generations to come.
The in-house legal work is very diverse and challenging, but the primary focus of this position will be on employment law in Indian Country, commercial transactions, Indian Gaming, Tribal economic development, and realty.
The Tribe is looking for someone with excellent people skills and the ability to work collegially, flexibly and creatively. An interest in conflict transformation and alternative dispute resolution would be a plus. A strong ethical character and an egalitarian willingness to work hard as part of a small legal department team is important. A sense of humor, a flexible temperament, a practical sensibility, creativity and intellectual and philosophical curiosity are also highly desired!
Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring of this position in accordance with the Tribe’s Personnel Policies.

The Native American Institute (NAI) works with tribes, Native American organizations, and various Michigan State University units to enhance the sovereignty, cultural continuity, and well-being of tribes, Native American communities, and Native American people.
Located in MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, NAI undertakes outreach and engagement scholarship. NAI works across units in the College and the University. Of special note is NAI’s close working relationship with MSU Extension (MSUE). NAI and MSUE jointly administer two tribally-focused MSU Extension programs.
NAI is undergoing a reorganization of purpose, approach, and strategy to best assist Michigan’s Native American population. The Director will provide leadership for this effort in concert with Native American communities and university stakeholders, thereby carrying NAI into its next phase of vibrant community engagement.
The Director will be responsible for all aspects of leading and managing NAI. Specific responsibilities include: managing NAI faculty and academic staff; coordinating program planning efforts in partnership with community members and the NAI Advisory Group; co-directing the Building Strong Sovereign Nations tribal governance training program undertaken collaboratively with MSU Extension and the Indigenous Law and Policy Center; co-directing the Michigan Federally-recognized Tribes Extension Program and MSU Extension; nurturing new scholarly initiatives tied to NAI’s outreach and research-oriented mission; generating external funding; and building productive collaborations across the university. The Director will hire and conduct academic staff evaluations; manage NAI resources and its budget; promote program excellence; ensure program accountability; and network with a variety of related units and constituencies, on- and off-campus.
The minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in urban and regional development or a related field. The Director duties will extend for 5 years with the possibility of renewal. Additional duties of the faculty member selected will be devoted to work in what will become the director’s tenure academic department or school. Academic record must be commensurate with tenure system appointment.

Duties included:
-Performs as an advisor within the Office of Tribal Government Relations (OTGR) and is responsible for prioritizing and coordinating issues relating to the Department’s daily relationship with tribal government leaders and representatives.
