NCAI Talent Pool for Obama Administration

The National Congress of American Indians has put out a call for recommendations for and resumes of people who would be good advocates for Indian country to serve in the new administration at all levels from secretary to staff.

Call for Submissions — FBA Indian Law Section Newsletter

Federal Bar Association’s Indian Law Section’s Fall newsletter is seeki9ng submissions. The deadline will be December 1, and any topic connected with federal Indian law and its recent developments would be welcome. Length should be no more than 2,000 words and can include book reviews, articles, case notes, etc.

Spring Speakers Series Finalized

The final dates and speakers for our Spring Speakers Series has been finalized.  The Indigenous Law and Policy Center at MSU College of Law will be hosting four events this spring, and all of the details can be found at our Spring Speakers Series, 2009 page.

“The Exiles” — Film Screenings — Grand Rapids Nov. 7-13

THE EXILES chronicles one night in the lives of young Native American men and women living in the Bunker Hill district of Los Angeles. Based entirely on interviews with the participants and their friends, the film follows a group of exiles — transplants from Southwest reservations — as they flirt, drink, party, fight, and dance.

Filmmaker Kent Mackenzie first conceived of The Exiles during the making of his short film Bunker Hill—1956 while a student at the University of Southern California. In July 1957, Mackenzie began to hang around with some of the young Indians in downtown Los Angeles. After a couple of months, he broached the subject of making a film that would present a realistic portrayal of Indian life in the community.
