The Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at New York University invites applications for a junior ranked search in the field of Native American Studies. We especially welcome applications from scholars whose research relates to urban indigeneity, Critical Indigenous Theory, settler colonialism, literature, Indigenous resurgence and governance, Queer Studies, Indigenous pedagogies, environmental studies, and/or language revitalization. California Tribal Families Coalition

2022 Summer Law Clerk. Candidates are preferably rising 3Ls, however, 2Ls with relevant experience prior to or while in law school will be considered. CTFC provides an opportunity for summer law clerks with demonstrated interest in Indian law and/or social welfare law and policy. It is helpful if candidates have completed advanced research, writing, and a clinical placement. Primarily remote, but may include an opportunity to meet in-person in Northern California. Projects will vary. Past projects have included drafting state court briefs, research and writing an opposition to appellate case de-publication, developing training materials on state law, and drafting legal and policy strategy for legislation. Juvenile Intake Officer, Fort Totten, N.D. The Spirit Lake Tribe is seeking a Juvenile Intake Officer. This position involves public relation skills in working with troubled children and youth along with independent and substantial degree of discretion in making decisions to determine need for formal judicial involvement or diversity programs for juvenile delinquent offenders.  It also entails reviewing delinquency petitions and conducting informal adjustments and/or assisting the Juvenile Court Prosecutor in determining processing of juvenile cases.  The applicant must be able to work with little or no supervision at times.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Juvenile Prosecutor or Judge.  Works with average exposure to noise, but subject to frequent disruptions and moderate degree of stress.  Travels occasionally when necessary to do networking with other agencies.  Please see the job announcement and/or website for more information.

The employee serves as attorney for the Yakama Nation Public Defender-Legal Aid Services Program and is responsible for providing quality professional legal representation and advice to tribal member clients in Tribal, Municipal, State and Federal Court systems or administrative agencies as assigned by the Lead Attorney-Program Manager. Employee is responsible for providing a full range of legal services to tribal members in areas such as, criminal, dependency, children’s court, fish and game, civil, family and Federal Indian Law matters, as assigned by the Lead Attorney-Program Manager.   • Manage NJC’s Tribal Judicial Center including supervision of program manager.
  • Research, design and implement curricula for in-person and web-based continuing judicial education programs.
  • Identify and recruit judicial, medical, legal, and other professional faculty.
  • Develop faculty, provide feedback on performance and presentation style.
  • Edit faculty-provided material for accuracy and compliance with NJC standards.
  • Analyze enrollment trends and promote NJC products through a wide array of marketing tactics to increase judicial participation.
  • Lead manager/administrator team during all stages of course facilitation.
  • Handle all logistics for off-site courses including direct contact with host site staff.
  • Participate in grant concept papers and applications, including deliverable identification, budgeting time and expenditures, and project length. Ensures deliverables are met.
  • Develop yearly program budgets.
  • Assist in all areas of the Academic Department and special projects as required.
