Colorado’s Office of the Lieutenant Governor

Executive Director for the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs (CCIA),Denver Metro, CO. The Commission is the official liaison between the State of Colorado, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Legal Services of South Central Michigan

Staff Attorney, Lansing, M.I. Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) is a division of the Michigan Advocacy Program (MAP) which provides access to the justice system for those who need it the most through its local legal services offices, Legal Services of South Central Michigan and Farmworker Legal Services, as well several statewide advocacy programs: Michigan Poverty Law Program, the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, the Michigan Elder Justice Initiative, and the Michigan Legal Help Program. Supervising Staff Attorney Chicago, Chicago, I.L. Earthjustice is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join its Midwest Regional Office in Chicago, IL. This office serves as a focal point for work throughout the Midwest, potentially including work across the full array of Earthjustice’s program areas – Climate & Energy, Healthy Communities, Lands and Wildlife, and Sustainable Food and Farming. Professor, Albuquerque, N.M. The University of New Mexico School of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenured-track faculty position to teach in its Legal Analysis and Communication Program, starting in the Fall of 2020. Faculty in the program are responsible for teaching Elements of Legal Argumentation I & II, the law school’s required first-year legal writing sequence. ELA I & II focus on developing students’ skills in legal reading, research, analysis, and communication. The program’s faculty members typically teach two first-year sections of approximately 15-20 students each (or 30-40 students total). They also teach upper-level writing courses, and the successful candidate will be expected to help design and implement the program’s upper-level writing curriculum. At UNM, legal writing faculty serve on all law school committees (including serving as chairs of committees) and are eligible for summer research and teaching grants. The Clinical Law Program at the University of New Mexico School of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty position in its Economic Justice Clinic (EJC) beginning Fall 2020. EJC works to reduce structural inequality and promote equitable economic development in low-income communities through direct representation of individuals and legal support for community-based organizing efforts in the areas of workers’ rights, housing, and grassroots entrepreneurship. Nevada Legal Services

Indian Law Attorney, Reno N.V. Nevada Legal Services has an opening for a staff attorney within our Indian Law Program.  Nevada Legal Services is a statewide non-profit that provides free legal assistance to low income Nevadans. The Indian Law Program is based out of our Reno office and serves the 27 Native American tribes and colonies within the State of Nevada.  This position will be based out of our Elko office in order to serve the surrounding communities in eastern Nevada. The Program provides a wide range of services to both tribal members and tribal governments based upon the needs expressed by each community. In that capacity, the Program acts as public defender in a number of tribal jurisdictions and also serves as counsel to the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada. The Program also conducts clinical programs for a variety of tribal courts.  Frequent travel throughout Nevada, including overnight stays, is required.
Required Qualifications:

  • Applicants should be licensed to practice in Nevada or in another state and eligible for admission pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 72.1.  Recent graduates awaiting results from the July bar examination will be considered, but continued employment will be contingent on passing the bar.
  • Experience with and knowledge of federal Indian law or tribal law preferred.
    Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to work with low-income clients from diverse backgrounds.
